Gday FLT40

Are you saying you had bad luck with the BC pipes?

Can I ask what that was?

Have a delivery date for my bike now, and was seriously considering the BC's.

Cheers

Hey Sean,
I had my BC's a month before I bought my bike. I've got about 2000 klms up and the pipes are brilliant and the exhaust notes intoxicating.
I say notes plural as they go from reasonably quiet to full noise under hard acceleration just beautifully. These pipes are not obnoxious they just sound awesome.

Sean at BC's is great to deal with. Are you in Melbourne?

Gday Simon

Perth here buddy.

Did you buy your pipes from the dealer or bc's directly?

I see on their website they are listed at $650 USD, not sure how much the dealer
will add to that if I go through them, thinking I might order direct and just have the dealer fit them.

I wanted to see and hear them in the flesh before purchasing but it doesnt look like that will happen, going to take the punt based on the reviews and sounds clips from the forum lads.

I'm sure I wont be disappointed.

Sorry FTL40, must have misunderstood your previous post.

Cheers

Sean

Hi Sean,

Mmm... bit far to ride for the weekend.
Talk to Sean at BC's, he looked after me & gave me a small discount. sean@british-customs.com
The pipes left the US when they said they would and that was about 4 weeks as they had to wait for them to get back from the polishers.
They did have a 10% discount for buying online at 1 stage don't know if thats still going.
Mention that Simon from Australia suggested you contact him and I'm sure he will do his best for you, or he might say "who's Simon".
I got the dealer to fit mine, not that its difficult but I didn't want to pick up my bike and have to do anything to it. Ignore the sound clips they sound so much better than that!

Hey guys,

I got a set of Hog Slayers in to test and did a sound test with stock then the Hog Slayers.

I kept the bike and the camera in the same exact place at 45 degree angle off to the rear of the bike about 6 feet away. I ran them up to 4,000 rpm slow three times, then did throttle blips to 3,000 rpm.

They are not too loud (to my ears) rode two hours last night without ear plugs and it was not a problem. They really talk when you crack the throttle, and sound really sweet (to my ears) nice tone. Anyway the clip will give you a comparison. It's on Youtube and I warn you it has some advertising.

Hope this helps for those wondering how they compare. I would say they are a little louder than D&D because they are cat-less and stainless vs chrome steel. I also got a surprise that I was not expecting. Seat of the pants, but there was a modest, but notable difference in torque across the range. Since I was not looking for, hoping for or even considering it, I think it is an objective observation, yet I can not prove it or quantify it. Just something I noticed.

Hi Eddy,
Great sound clip.
Not sure what air filter your running but when I put my K&N on the volume crept up a touch to be pretty well perfect and the popping on decel increased a bit also but I'm actually liking that now. I do know about plugging the sai pipe just haven't done it.
In another year I will be able to listen to these babies with a BB kit fitted which should give a slightly deeper note. When I saw these were stainless, got rid of the cat box and look great being the perfect length and flair it was a no brainer for me.

How awesome do they sound under hard acceleration & deceleration!!

Hey Simon,

I think they are the sweetest under hard pull! I was going to install a UNI filter but my dealer ignored my request and put a new paper in as well as a few other items I was not keen on having done, but next run is the UNI filter.

I don't think your popping necessarily increased, I noticed on the bikes that the stock just hides it better...it's there even with stock just muffled way down. I get "blats" on hard decelerate every once in a while, but I in quick order too, think it is cool.

I took it over to two Harley buddies places and the one just smiled..."Now that sounds a lot better!"

I can feel the engine more too, more likely I because of the "bass" note of the exhaust, but these really are a sweet pipe.

Hey Eddie, how do the Hog Slayers compare to the Triumph Of Road (TORS) pipes for sound. That, would be a great comparison as a lot of guys are running the TORS. A sound clip of this comparison would be GREAT!

Thanks

Ernie

I am very happy with the sound of the cat removed and stock pipes on my Storm. Last night at a stop light a young kid in a car next to me said "Hey man, those exhaust pipes are awesome" - not sure if he was referring to looks or sound, but I am going to stop goofing around with my exhaust (at least for a little while.. after all, someone has to keep the photoshop'ers busy!). The idle is a little burblier than stock and it barks pretty well when I stomp on it.

Regarding air filters - I am using tune 20363 with my cat removed - if I go to a K&N or other high flow filter seems to me I'd be ultra lean - is there another tune I need to go to?

EZ, I road behind Narsisco who has TORs if I recall and they were nice sounding, the Hogslayers sound a great deal different than those and D&D they are certainly louder I think and that being as mentioned tobascofred I suspect is directly related to having no Cat, as the Cat significantly lowers volume.

tobascofred the K&N Filter is too tall for the Thunderbirds box without modifying the box it will crush down the filter. UNI's filter works the reason is the K&N Filter has a hard er gasket and the bottom is a bit different in that it does not recess so the filter is too tall by 3/8 inch (I think is the measurement) but will "crush" when tightened down. Just be aware.

Also, if I recall correctly the bikes EFI will auto adjust for the difference between air filters.

My dealer instructed me that after I put my pipes on (with the new tune) and ran it for a bit, to stop and idle until the fan comes on and leave it idle until the fan shuts off and then the EFI would recalibrate for the minor differences in the exhaust (I rode home with the tune and then put the pipes on)

eddy - thanks for the filter info. Regarding the stop hot, idle until fan cycles on and then off - not the full-monty 12 minute adaptation?

The K&N was about 5 to 10mm too long and buckled when I put it in coz had to sort of force the top on and I didn't like doing that.
So I straightened it back up, used a sharp knife (and a box of band aids) to recess out the bottom plastic to match the stock filter profile and it slots in nicely. Took about 15 minutes. You could also use a dremel.
It does make quite a bit of difference as I have the hog slayers on but not the BB kit (yet).
I am pretty sure the computer will look after just a filter change but you would need the tors tune if you change the pipes also.

Copy of earlier post.

Just made a drive-by video this afternoon giving another variation for those considering the Hogslayers.

PS I posted under another thread but since it is mentioned in here too, I got confirmation today from a member and I double checked it out, there is a new K&N Filter for the Thunderbird/Storm that is 10 mm shorted and will now work on the Bird's without "crushing" them.
I re-listed them on my site.

Updated Hogslayers redesigned to comply with California (CARB) Law the new re-work is made for use with the Catalytic Converter and stock heat shield.

Don't feel sad, if you want to go CATless I have the fix and have confirmed fitment with the new pipes! Of course this is for places that do not have regulations against such things....

One of my customers posted a video of the pipes (CATless) have a listen and look!
